Mr. Molotov was foreign minister of the USSR (in the civilian suit). He
was stranded in Gander for 2 days after visiting the US to convince
them to open a 2nd front in their war with Germany.
Arrival of Lord Beaverbrook at the RAF site in 1941. The whole are
was known as the Beaver Centre.
The RAF handled the "ferrying" of
war planes to Britain through Gander.
Mackenzie King was the Prime Minister of Canada during WW2 and has a "stopover" in Gander on the way to Britain.
RCAF Gander Hospital was built
in 1941, with 120 beds to meet the needs of some 10,000 troops
stationed at the base.
